blank space filler
Description:
This is a 5-day intensive workshop that is aimed at students who have a keen interest for dance. All classes are progressive focusing on technique, individual style and presentation as well as learning creative and challenging choreography for a final performance. Different dance genres from around the world will also be explored. Boys and Girls are welcome. The course is taught by highly qualified and experienced professional teachers. “This was the best CAS week I've ever experience in my school life so far. Even though we had to dance approximately 6 hours every day and suffered from muscle pain after hard core stretching and dancing, it was really fun and enjoyable.” Claire Woo 10D CAS 2011 “CAS week 2011 was absolutely amazing this year. As a year 10, I had a choice in my CAS week this year and I honestly could not have asked for a better CAS week. This week, everyone that took dance had the opportunity to meet new people, become closer to those that we know and even learn about different types of dance in the world. Dancing was a lot of fun in general and it gave me the experience to do something that I’ve always wanted to start up but never could. I hope that I can continue dancing for a very long time because it’s a brilliant activity and it’s incredibly entertaining.” Alisha Pradhan 10A CAS 2011

04.CAS week Art / Photography activity

blank space filler
Description:
The Art Department will be organising a CAS week Creative Art / Photography activity. The fine details have still to be ironed out but it is envisaged that the activity will take place both out and about in Hong Kong and at times, in the school. Any student in Years 10-12 can opt for this activity; no particular skills in Art or Photography are necessary but an enjoyment of the subject is essential. It would be expected that students would have access to a camera. A simple digital camera (Point-and-Shoot) would be perfectly good.

06.The Amazing Race

blank space filler
Description:
This activity will take place all over Hong Kong. The students will work in teams, have to figure out clues, take part in challenges, make their way around HK on public transport and possibly make fools of themselves! It is a competition resulting in a winning team at the end of the week. Teams strive to arrive first at "pit stops" at the end of each leg of the race to avoid coming last, which carries a disadvantage for the following leg. The clues in each activity point the teams to the next destination or direct them to perform a task, either together or by a single member. The students will hopefully find this an immensely fun week but also mentally and physically challenging which will improve many skills but particularly leadership and team work. Although the students will be travelling all over Hong Kong they will be monitored by teachers who will be meeting them at checkpoints throughout the day.

You will be visiting Kyushu – the most south-westerly of Japan’s four main islands. The itinerary includes visits to Nagasaki Peace Museum, Kumamoto castle, a cable car ride up Mount Aso (active volcano), a relaxing night at a ryokan (traditional inn with a hot spring) in Kagoshima and a countryside farm life experience: working, cooking with farmers and home-stay. We will also experience the speed of a shinkansen (bullet train) while enjoying ekiben (station lunchboxes). We may also have an exchange program with a Japanese High School. For a more detailed itinerary and description of the trip, please see Ms. Charnley or Mrs. Chen. See Brochure for full details.

Description:
Cambodia has an amazing heritage, warm friendly people and an untamed wild landscape. The beautiful and extensive temple ruins at Angkor, now a UNESCO Heritage site, represent the glorious Khmer civilization and one of the most spectacular historical sites in Asia. We will explore the incredible Angkor Wat Temple complex, starting at sunrise, visiting all of the main sites including the main Angkor Wat Temple, the Bayon and Ta Prohm. We will visit the Cambodian Cultural Village near Siem Reap, 11 unique villages where we’ll see the different daily life and cultural heritage of the 19 multi races in Cambodia, such as Apsara dancing, traditional ceremonies, circus, peacock dancing, acrobatics, elephant show, boxing, weaving, carving and more. Students will have the opportunity to work at a local school in Siem Reap teaching children art, handicrafts and English. In addition we will contribute to and work on a renovation project at the school. We will be working alongside local builders. During our trip to Siem Reap, there will also be opportunities to learn about the history of Cambodia especially the political struggles which Cambodia endured several decades ago with the then ruling Khmer Rouge, and the atrocities they brought to the people of the country. We will visit the War and Landmine Museum outside Siem Reap which demonstrates the scale and effects of these weapons on Cambodia and its people. Virtually all Cambodians have lost loved ones due to the mines, bombs and other explosive remnants of war (ERWs). We will eat dinner in local restaurants, including one evening at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, and another night at Angelina Jolie’s favourite restaurant. See Brochure for full details.

Description:
North Korea is something of an enigma. This is your chance to visit a country at a historic crossroads. The recent change of leadership in the country provides a fascinating backdrop to this most mysterious of countries. The CAS Week trip to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) will allow you to find out all about this country, and its people, and promises to be a cultural experience like no other. Few people have the opportunity to visit this secretive, communist country. It is a place that globalisation has left largely untouched, thus preserving the character and landscape of the nation and its inhabitants. During our stay, we will be based in Pyongyang, the nation’s capital. You will get a taste of this country’s fascinating culture and sites. Just a few highlights include the USS Pueblo (American spy ship), the Panmunjom Demilitarised Zone Concrete Wall and the North Korean equivalent of Ocean Park. We will also aim to visit a local school, where you will get to meet the local children and perhaps share learning experiences. You might be the first foreigner that many of the students will have ever spoken to. A trip such as this is guaranteed to broaden your horizons and, equally importantly, those that you meet. See Brochure for full details.
